The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) begins replacing the bridge on County Road 99 over Pine Barren Creek in Escambia County. The existing bridge, built in 1955, will be replaced with a new, modern structure with 11-foot travel lanes, 9-foot shoulders and solid concrete barrier railing. County Road 99 will be slightly realigned and will connect to the new bridge being constructed just west of the existing bridge.
Additional work includes: drainage improvements; construction of a drainage pond to collect stormwater runoff from the travel lanes to create safer driving conditions; installation of new guardrail; and newly constructed and paved roadway approaching the new bridge.
- Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge.
- There will be temporary traffic shifts.
- The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph.
Drivers are reminded that speeding fines are doubled when workers are present in the work zone.
Construction activities are weather dependent and might be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
