Work to widen and improve U.S. 98 in Walton County between Emerald Bay Drive to Tang-O- Mar Drive began fall 2016. In June 2018, all travel lanes were shifted to the north side of U.S. 98 to allow crews to construct the new eastbound travel lanes. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph. Slow down during inclement weather and be alert of water on the roadway. Use caution when traveling on the outside travel lanes. Drivers making right turns will be slowing down to access business driveways and side streets.
Use caution when entering or exiting business driveways and side streets located on the south side of US 98 near active near active work zones. Drivers are only permitted to make right turns from side streets and business driveways. Left turns will not be permitted at these locations. U-turns for non-commercial vehicles will only be permitted at signalized intersections.
