Project Details

Widening US 98 from four to six travel lanes between Emerald Bay Drive and Airport Road in Okaloosa County. It is projected for completion in fall 2020. In addition to widening the roadway, other improvements for the US 98 corridor include: (1) Adding new sidewalks and bicycle paths along each side of US 98. (2) Constructing new stormwater detention ponds. (3) Adding a new signal at the Indian Bayou Trail/Restaurant Row intersection. (4) Upgrading existing traffic signals. (5) Making drainage improvements. Crews are currently focused on signalization work, stormwater drainage and construction of the intersection at Indian Bayou Trail. Traffic Detour 3 has been implemented and traffic has now been shifted to the South in the former median between Hooters and Matthew Boulevard.

Traffic Impacts

Drivers can expect nighttime lane closures on US 98 east and westbound, between Airport Road to the west entrance of Henderson Beach State Park, in Okaloosa County beginning Sunday, Sept. 10. Lane closures will only be allowed between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
