Project Details
The purpose and need of this project was to analyze the widening from 4 lanes to 6 lanes of SR 10 (US 90) through Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties to provide additional east-west capacity alternatives to Interstate 10 (I-10). SR 10 (US 90) serves as a connecting link between the City of Pensacola, the community of Pace and the City of Milton. The western segment directly connects with I-10 and is in close proximity to the main University of West Florida campus entrance at Campus Drive. The eastern segment connects with SR 281 (Avalon Boulevard), which connects to I-10, and also connects with SR 87 and SR 89, both of which extend north into Alabama.
Preferred “Build’ Concept:
• Segment 1: US 90 from Scenic Highway to east of the Escambia River Bridge
Predominately utilizes the existing US 90 roadway and widens to the outside to achieve 6 lanes. The westbound Escambia River Bridge will be widened to the inside to utilize existing pilings and substructure.
• Segment 2: US 90 from east of the Escambia River Bridge to east of the White River Bridge
Will utilize the existing US 90 roadway and widen to the outside to achieve 6 lanes.
• Segment 3: US 90 from east of the White River Bridge to east of 3rd Avenue
Will predominately utilize the existing US 90 roadway and widen to the outside except in the vicinity of the westbound Simpson River Bridge which will be widened to the inside to achieve 6 lanes.
• Segment 4: US 90 from east of 3rd Avenue to east of Bell Lane
Will utilize the existing US 90 roadway and widen to the outside to achieve 6 lanes.
• Segment 5: US 90 from east of Bell Lane to Glover Lane.
Will utilize the existing US 90 and widen to the outside to achieve 6 lanes.
