Project Details

FDOT is conducting a PD&E Study to analyze the existing characteristics, evaluate the community needs and impacts, and develop proposed conceptual improvements for the widening of US 231 for capacity and intersection improvements along the US 231 corridor. The intent of the study is to find solutions to improve capacity and facilitate freight movements on US 231 between US 98 and SR 20. The improvements should also increase safety, augment emergency evacuation capabilities, facilitate tourism and the movement of people and goods, and enhance bicycle/pedestrian safety and access.

In addition to the US 231 corridor, the study area includes SR 389 (East Avenue) from Sherman Avenue to Baldwin Road and involves evaluation of need for reconstruction of the existing 2 lane undivided roadway to a 4 lane divided urban typical section with bike lanes and sidewalks on either side of the roadway.
